Urban Wilderness '08 officially ended on July 8 when 26 students and 7 leaders arrived home!

Urban Wilderness '08 
Our high-schoolers (and fearless leaders) will travel to Denver, Colorado for an inner-city mission experience with DenUM (Denver Urban Ministries).  After spending some time there, we'll travel to Buena Vista for some wilderness experiences.   


Our goal is to see God in the face of a homeless person one day, and then see Him in his awesome Creation the day after...experiencing God on many levels.
Then we'll return home changed forever.  

Denver
DenUM coordinates multi-day work at over 20 local non-profit agencies.  Here's an example of some of the things our students will be involved in:

• Preparing and serving meals for the homeless
• Sorting donations in a food bank
• Building/Improving low-income housing
• Preparing & delivering meals to patients with HIV/AIDS
• Painting homes
• Nurturing & tending gardens
• Working with children of economically-disadvantaged families

Students will be drawn out of their comfort zone and allowed to experience an unfamiliar world.  Work days last from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., depending on the site.  At least one evening will be spent with an Urban Education speaker. 
 
Buena Vista
We'll be doing a two-day whitewater rafting trip and also experience a full day of rock-climbing.  Noah's Ark is the organization who will be leading us in this part of the trip.
